DarLink AI Review (2026): Fast Replies, Tight Free Plan
Verdict: Worth it if you want to design your own character down to the voice and backstory and you're going to pay anyway. Don't judge it by the free plan, which is over almost before it starts.
Signing up
Email and password, then a verification link that arrived in about 10 seconds and logged us straight in. No card, and no age check at all beyond the terms of service. We were chatting about three minutes after opening the site.
How much you get for free
Very little chat. When we clicked two featured characters on the home page, the site opened three conversations, each with a greeting. We sent our first message and got a reply; our second was blocked with "You've reached 5 free messages. Upgrade now to unlock access to chats, photos, and videos." The greetings counted toward the five, and the limit covers the whole account.
Images are more generous: 3 free a day, about 30 seconds each, and the result from our everyday prompt was a clean, realistic photo.
Chat quality
Replies arrive in about two seconds, the fastest in our test. Featured characters come with a strong built-in story. To "hey, I'm Sam. long day at work", Lizzy answered:
Sam, finally. I've been sitting here with your wife for forty minutes listening to her brag about the cruise you two booked without me.
She used our name immediately and stayed in her scene, but the paywall came before we could test memory. If you want a blank-slate girlfriend rather than a soap opera, build your own.
The character creator
Five steps: gender and art style (realistic, anime, fantasy and more), ethnicity and age (18–99), face and hair, body, then name, voice (12 presets), relationship, personality, occupation, and optional scenario, greeting and outfit. It generated a portrait in about 30 seconds, and creating the character didn't cost us anything.
Billing and privacy
Cards on everything; crypto only on yearly plans and token packs (and those don't auto-renew). Purchases are final unless you ask within 24 hours with little use. There's a Delete Account button in Settings that removes characters and conversations. The operator is FameLink SA in Switzerland. No app-store app.
