How we test
Every app on this site gets the same treatment. We don't rank anything we haven't signed up for and chatted with ourselves.
1. Sign up like a normal user
A fresh email address, the normal signup form, no press account. We note every step between the landing page and the first message: email verification, age check, whether a card is asked for.
2. The same opening for every companion
We pick a featured companion and open with the same lines: our name and one detail about the day. A few messages later we ask the companion to repeat both. That tells us more about memory than any marketing page.
3. Count the free plan
We keep chatting on the free plan until the app stops us or asks for money, and count the messages. If images, voice or video are free in small amounts, we try them too. The number you see in our tables is what our account actually got on the test day.
4. Read the prices off the checkout page
Plans, yearly discounts, token packs and payment methods come from the app's own pricing page on the test date. We don't enter card details, and we don't count "from" prices that only exist on a three-year plan.
5. Score
Out of 10: chat quality 40%, free plan 20%, value for money 20%, features (images, voice, character creation) 10%, privacy and billing honesty 10%. When an app changes its plans we re-test and update the date at the top of the page.

All screenshots come from our own test accounts. We keep them safe for work, so you won't see explicit images here even though most of these apps allow them.

Some links on this site are affiliate links. If you subscribe after clicking one, the app may pay us. Apps can't buy a score or a position: the ranking is the scores, sorted. Full disclosure.
